We started Soundings in 1986 to offer a place where people that love Music and Film could listen, compare, and purchase fine quality Audio and Video equipment in real world surroundings.
Our longevity is a result of our passion for music and film guided by a stubborn determination to offer only the best products available in all price ranges. Our six showrooms are setup to let you see and hear exactly what a film or piece of music SHOULD sound like in order to give you a basis on which to decide what is right for you.
After you choose your equipment, Soundings attention to detail and skill with designing, installing, and calibrating your system will provide you an experience in your home that far exceeds your expectations.
If you care about quality, if you love Music and film, then Soundings is the place for you.
Our Strengths
At Soundings, the products we carry come in second place only to the talent and passion of our staff. While there are a lot of choices when it comes to purchasing audio and video gear, real value comes from dealing with a people that are passionate and knowledgeable about what they do.
Our greatest strength lies in our ability to properly design a system around you and your home and then to critically position your speakers and calibrate your audio and video. Master Set™ is our systematic speaker placement process that we have developed over many years of setting speakers in order to guarantee that not a single detail from your film or piece of music is lost.
Our passion for what we do goes far beyond the point of sale on a system. We go to great lengths to satisfy and delight our clients, creating relationships that last a lifetime. Clients will often call us up years after they’ve purchased a system and are pleased that we remember them, and even more surprised that we remember their entire system. If they have a problem or question, we are often able to solve it easily over the phone. When our clients need us, they aren’t directed to call tech support and they aren’t referred back to a huge pile of owner’s manuals, instead they are met with a warm greeting and a knowledgeable person to solve their problem. And when that’s not enough we’ll be at their home, in person, to take care of it.
Our Process
How do you buy a home theater or audio system?
When you visit Soundings, you will be met by a highly trained sales person who will walk you through our six showrooms, explaining and demonstrating to you what a home theater or audio system is supposed to look and sound like. We will you show you different products and technologies at different price points to find the one that best suit you. We’re confident that after you see and hear our home theater and audio systems you’ll be better able to help us design the perfect system for you and your family.
If you choose to have us design a home entertainment system for you, we will need to visit your home so we can understand the space you want to put the system in, check out any existing wiring and equipment you may have, and see any obstacles or challenges to the installation. You will want to decide on the level of performance you would like from your home theater or audio system.
Based on this information we will design your home entertainment system and give you a proposal mapping out every detail. We will revise it as necessary until we have the perfect home entertainment system for you and your family. We believe that you want a home theater or audio system that is reliable and easy to use, with one remote to operate everything. Most of all we think you want quality gear that is fun to use every single day.
Our Staff

Rod Tomson – Founder
Born and raised in Loveland Co. Rod discovered a fascination with sound. A graduation gift of a reel to reel Tape recorder and a pair of Koss headphones cemented a path that would take him to Colo state university where he studied music with the intent of becoming a Symphony/Choral conductor. During this time Rod paid for his education selling Audio equipment at a local hifi store called Team Electronics. After getting his education Rod decided to take a year off of his education and sell audio equipment full time…. That was 47 years ago.

Shanker Wiegel – Managing Partner
Shanker is the Managing Partner at Soundings Fine Audio Video. He can always be found on the cutting edge of technology exploring the latest in home audio/video and home automation products, but his real passion still lies with high end audio and home theater sound reproduction or the experience that he describes as: “what happens after you press the ‘play’ button”. Shanker formed his own home theater company in the late 90’s and then worked in commercial audio video for a few years doing large scale projects such as the Mile High Stadium and Mount Rushmore Amphitheater before joining Soundings in 2002. Shanker brings both his passion for music and film and his extensive knowledge of products and systems design to every system that Soundings delivers in order to ensure that each system performs at it’s dead level best.
When not concentrating on his work, Shanker enjoys time spent with his family and giving bear hugs.. to bear.

Brad Thomas – Install
Brad is the Customer Service Manager/Lead Install Technician. From an early age music became an important part of Brads life. He was raised on Motown and Oldies, Classic Rock and Soul but his teenage curiosities led him to discovering Hip Hop, Drum n’ Bass, Turntablism and the art of the DJ. That paired with sales positions at all the big box stores sparked his obsession with electronics, but it wasn’t until he found a home with Soundings that he truly learned what it takes to deliver only the best products and service the industry has to offer. Now older and wiser, his focus is on all aspects of our industry including Audio Distribution, Home Automation, Networking and of course Fine Audio and Video. He is a family man at heart and his passions are playing golf in the summer, and getting up to the mountains for some riding in the winter.

Shannon Waddell
Shannon has been with Soundings for 5 years but has been around High End Audio since childhood being the niece of owner, Rod Thompson. Nothing happens unless it hits her desk first! She is a mother of two beautiful girls and five furry pets.
